Silk!

We interrupt your regularly scheduled programming to announce the addition of SILK! to our product line. Decision made, sourcing efforts to follow. Who knew?

Anyway, here's the story. A woman came into the store wanting another dress made for herself; 10 year old granddaughter in-tow also wants one. Child wants purple binding on her dress. So the search for purple in my cache commences. Find a few pieces large enough for neck and hem binding and put them in the go-bag to take to the store as samples.

Then! A huge chunk of dark purple in the bottom of the box. What's that? Well it was 2 LARGE curtain panels, made years ago, dyed purple to hid some sun damage discoloration. And the fabric?  Light weight silk. Not sure if you've noticed lately, but it is HOT! And silk WORKS in the heat.

So into the washer and dryer it goes. I have been wanting to try a drapey fabric to slim down the silhouette of our muumuu dress, so I cut a dress in the purple silk, using the slimmer width of our basic tunic top, plus a couple inches and hung it on the mannequin. WOWSA, what a difference a fabric can make. Tried it on; no cling, nice drape, great movement.  It is a keeper. Dress should be finished this week to take to the store. And I will be sourcing some more of this heat friendly fabric.
