It Occurred to Me

by Neil S Murphy

Watching a show about Jesus last night called ‘ The Chosen ‘ it occurred to me just how much God truly used and still uses the foolish and weak of this world. It starts with Mary Magdalene and then one by one shows the apostles for what they were before their encounter with Jesus, and it wasn’t pretty. Simon Peter was portrayed as a rowdy fisherman who was dishonest and self-centered in his pursuits. Matthew the tax collector an arrogant depressed and unhappy man, and it goes on and on with each of his chosen vessels.

WE are those same people, the flawed, dishonest, sinners who even so are exactly who and what God uses to demonstrate his love, purpose and perfection. Think about that the next time you feel weak or useless to him. He even said so in 1 Corinthians so we could be sure of what we are seeing.  God never leaves anything to chance or to misunderstanding. He is clear, direct and perfect in his communications with us. It is us who are flawed and weak in our understanding.

1 Corinthians 1:27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;
